Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder was a pleasant way to spend a day, regardless of how the internet feels about it. No prior knowledge of the Thor films is required, so don’t worry if you haven’t watched any of them.
I loved everything about the movie, but the one scene that made me shout with glee was the image of Darryl Jacobson as an Asgard tour guide, just living his best life and loving it.
When Darryl (played by Daley Pearson, aka the man behind Bluey) initially debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016, he was part of a short film series. Before and after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Daryl was Thor’s roommate. Thor learnt how to write an email and how to live with someone else in the first short (ehh, kind of). They have nothing to do with Thor: Love and Thunder, but a good cameo should be all about fan service, and that’s exactly what these shorts are.
Darryl appears in three films, all of which were written and directed by Taika Waititi, the director of the upcoming film—which, I think, explains why we’re seeing Darryl in these clips.
After Thor: Ragnarok, Darryl relocates to Los Angeles and is seeking for a roommate, presumably since Thor is off-world and not because he’s a delinquent. Team Darryl is the last (maybe) episode. The Grandmaster, of course, answers to the ad, and things go just as one would imagine.
If you’re a Disney Plus subscriber, all three of them are included in the Marvel One-Shots collection. Things That Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer, Item 47, and Agent Carter: The Beginning are just a few examples.
