Samsung’s Upcoming Unpacked Event Promises Exciting New Product Releases

Samsung is gearing up for its next major product launch event, Unpacked, expected to be held this July. While the new foldable smartphones are always a highlight, this time, a new wearable is stealing the show.

The most anticipated detail about the long-awaited Galaxy Ring was recently revealed through an unlikely source. A lawsuit, pre-emptively filed by Samsung against Finnish health tech company Oura, disclosed that the Galaxy Ring is set to arrive in the US “in or around August of this year.”

The lawsuit alleges that Oura has used its patent portfolio to sue competitors over “features common to virtually all smart rings.” It lists other cases where Oura has sued companies like Ultrahuman, RingConn, and Circular, preventing them from entering the U.S. market. This has allowed Oura’s smart ring to dominate, making Samsung’s entry with the Galaxy Ring particularly noteworthy.

Teased at this year’s Galaxy Unpacked event, the Galaxy Ring made a brief appearance at the end of the presentation. A shiny metal ring flashed on the screen, with a Samsung representative announcing that it’s “here to change the shape of future health like only Samsung can.” Details about the Galaxy Ring were further unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February. The device will come in nine different sizes (ring sizes 5 to 13) and three colors: black, silver, and gold.

The Galaxy Ring is expected to feature an array of health-monitoring capabilities, including heart rate tracking, sleep monitoring, and an ECG sensor. Samsung promises “leading sensor technology” and “comfortable 24/7 wear health tracking,” emphasizing that the Galaxy Ring is designed to complement its smartwatch range rather than replace it. “With Galaxy Ring, we are offering an all-new and simplified way to help people better manage their health, leveraging Samsung’s established leadership in health, along with our open-collaboration philosophy with industry experts and leading organizations,” Samsung stated.

While the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are anticipated to debut next month, the real buzz is around the Galaxy Ring, touted as Samsung’s pièce de résistance.

Australian availability for the Galaxy Ring has yet to be announced.

What else could be revealed at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024?

The second Galaxy Unpacked event of the year traditionally introduces new generations of the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip smartphones. This year is expected to follow suit, with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 all but confirmed by leaks and rumors.

Additionally, Samsung typically releases a range of smartwatches alongside its foldables. It’s highly likely that the Galaxy Watch7 line will be unveiled. Samsung is also expected to launch its first Ultra smartwatch this year, though it’s unclear if this premium version will be part of the Watch7 line. Nonetheless, its announcement at Unpacked is highly anticipated.

Samsung’s upcoming Unpacked event promises to deliver exciting new products that continue to push the boundaries of technology and innovation.
