Tachyum, a start-up in the United States, has officially introduced their Prodigy universal processor, which combines the capabilities of a CPU, GPU, and TPU in a single processor.
This meant that the corporation first had to break over the performance barrier in nanometer-class processors and the systems they power.
First commercial offering, Prodigy Cloud/AI/HPC supercomputer processor chip has four times the performance of Intel’s fastest Xeon CPU. However, it also boasts three times the raw performance of the Nvidia H100 on HPC and six times the raw performance on AI training and inference workloads.
New processors from Tachyum are aimed at overcoming increased data centre power consumption, poor server usage, and stopped performance growth, the company claims.
The Tachyum Prodigy
128 high-performance, unified 64-bit Tachyum Prodigy cores operate at a clock speed of 5.8 gigahertz with 16 DDR5 memory controllers and 64 PCIe 5.0 lanes. Because the business has created rack solutions for both air-cooled and liquid-cooled data centres, all of this raw power may be simply deployed in a data centre.
Since Tachyum’s Prodigy processor was built from the bottom up to handle matrix and vector processing, it supports a large number of data types, including FP64, Int8, FP8, and TAI. Other CPU and GPU solutions do not support this wide range of data types.
Moreover, Prodigy’s exceptional carbon footprint reduction and extraordinary data centre TCO reductions are achieved by enhancing performance while consuming less electricity.
A news statement from Tachyum’s founder and CEO, Dr. Radoslav Danilak, said that the company’s Prodigy processor may help turn hyperscale data centres into universal computing centres.

Data centres and supercomputer systems will save $100 billion by using Prodigy’s technology to allow AI on the scale of human brains while also cutting their total cost of ownership (TCO) and power usage. Introducing Prodigy, we are increasing the status of technology as well as making the globe a more environmentally friendly place.”
Tachyum’s Prodigy processor will begin sampling later this year, and volume manufacturing is slated to commence in the first part of 2023.
