Wi-Fi 6 is expected to be included to the next generation of Google Nest Wifi routers

According to speculation, the newest Wi-Fi 6 speeds and technologies are likely to be supported by Google’s Nest Wifi line of mesh routers, which haven’t been updated since 2019.

These claims are made by an anonymous source, who is typically reliable when it comes to reliable information. Additionally, it seems that Google’s smart home networking kit will be streamlined.

If additional connected devices are Wi-Fi 6 compatible, a move from Wi-Fi 5 (supported by the present line-up) to Wi-Fi 6 might result in speed gains of up to 9.6 Gbps from 3.5 Gbps. As for whether or not the newest Wi-Fi 6E standard will be used, the insider was unable to say.

Nest Wifi vs. Google Wifi

Both Nest Wifi and Google Wifi are available in the United States at the moment, which is perplexing. All of them may be used as routers linked to the internet and as satellite nodes extending the mesh network, even if they don’t have Google Assistant support.

There are routers and satellite nodes to choose from in the current Nest Wifi series. With this upgrade, the Nest Wifi series will resemble the Google Wifi series more closely than it has in the past (which last got a refresh in 2020).

For the time being, we don’t know when the next generation of Nest Wifi devices will be available, but it shouldn’t be too long. Although it’s not yet apparent whether Google Assistant will be included, the rumour says that they will come in a range of colours.

It’s time for an update!

In 2016, Google unveiled their initial Wifi mesh networking solution, which was highly sophisticated at the time. Multiple Wi-Fi access points placed throughout the house to provide complete Wi-Fi coverage was a relatively new concept.

Since then, Google’s been seriously eclipsed by the competition thanks to the launch of the friendlier-looking Nest gadgets. Wi-Fi 6 is already included into mesh networking systems like the Amazon Eero 6, for example, and it’s just as easy to use as the devices offered by Google.

Companies like Netgear and Linksys have begun releasing high-end Wi-Fi gear that can cover large regions with ultra-fast speeds. ” The Netgear Orbi WiFi 6 is slightly more expensive than the Google Nest Wifi, but it also delivers a higher degree of performance and more functions for the money.

Given the level of competition Google faces, it is long past time for the company to replace its mesh networking gear. For the new models, Wi-Fi 6 will be a solid start, but affordability will always be a factor.
