Global users of WhatsApp now have access to official proxy support

On Thursday, WhatsApp announced that it will begin supporting proxies for its users throughout the globe. Users will be able to keep using WhatsApp regardless of whether or not their connection is stable.

By using a proxy, people throughout the globe who are committed to free expression in communication may access WhatsApp via servers put up by other like-minded individuals and groups. WhatsApp claims that users’ private conversations and other data are still safeguarded by end-to-end encryption even when using a proxy connection. The firm guarantees that neither the proxy servers nor WhatsApp nor Meta will be able to read your communications.

“Our wish for 2023 is that these internet shutdowns never occur,” WhatsApp wrote in a blog post. “Disruptions like we’ve seen in Iran for months on end deny people’s human rights and cut people off from receiving urgent help. Though in case these shutdowns continue, we hope this solution helps people wherever there is a need for secure and reliable communication.”

All users who are using the most recent version of the app may find the new feature in the app’s settings menu. WhatsApp claims that anybody with access to the internet may look for reliable sources that have developed a proxy by using social media or search engines. WhatsApp users may connect to proxies by accessing the app’s settings, selecting “Storage and Data,” and then tapping “Proxy.” Once you’ve entered the proxy address, hit “Save” to connect.

A tick will appear in the box to indicate a successful connection. A proxy may have been prohibited if using it still prevents you from sending or receiving WhatsApp messages. In such a circumstance, you may try again by using a new proxy IP address. WhatsApp warns that using a proxy will expose your IP address to the proxy service.
