Tomb Raider TV and movie projects are reportedly being produced by Amazon and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge

According to a report from earlier on Friday by The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon is working on a TV series based on the Tomb Raider video game brand, and that Phoebe Waller-Bridge would be writing the scripts. But it seems that wasn’t all: later that day, Deadline confirmed the TV series news and also said that a new Tomb Raider film was in development at Amazon Studios.

Even though Waller-Bridge will be involved in the new Tomb Raider adaptations as a writer and executive producer, she will not be playing the lead role. It seems that the programme is still in the works, so we won’t be seeing it any time soon.

Amazon, which in December said it would be developing a God of War TV programme, might wind up with more major video game franchise adaptations with this new series and movie. Amazon is continuing to put money into the Tomb Raider series by publishing Crystal Dynamics’ next entry in the series. A remark from Amazon was requested but received no immediate response.

Netflix’s video game adaption Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was well received, while HBO’s The Last of Us was just renewed for a second season despite having shown only two episodes. Amazon’s forthcoming Tomb Raider series and movie, hopefully, will be as high-quality as the aforementioned programmes. (I haven’t seen any of the previous Tomb Raider films, but I’ve heard they’re not very good.)
