The Samsung Galaxy S23 will be the first device to use the most durable version of Gorilla Glass

Since the initial Gorilla Glass, Samsung’s Galaxy S range has been among the first to receive subsequent versions, and the same will be true with the next Galaxy S23 series, which will have Gorilla Glass Victus. Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 will make its debut in Samsung’s next-generation flagship phone series, it has been verified.

Despite being announced in November of last year, we have yet to see a device using Corning’s strongest screen protection. The newest iteration of Gorilla Glass will be shown to the public on February 1st, when the Galaxy S23 series makes its formal debut.

According to the press announcement, the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 has improved drop protection while keeping the same scratch resistance as its predecessor. Corning said their first Gorilla Glass product, Gorilla Glass Victus, could survive falls of up to 2 metres onto concrete.

Corning’s newest version has passed drop testing from one metre onto surfaces simulating concrete and asphalt. All new Samsung flagships will be able to survive a drop from waist height onto concrete.

Many of the top-tier Android phones scheduled for release this year, like the Galaxy S23, are also anticipated to be equipped with the latest iteration of Gorilla Glass. Corning has promised enhanced drop performance, and although we don’t know which other smartphone companies will adopt this screen protection, we’re delighted anyhow.

Though neither Samsung nor Corning has confirmed it, the S23 models’ back glass might possibly be protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus 2. In any case, we won’t have to wait long to find out, since Samsung has scheduled the premiere of the Galaxy Unpacked event for 2019 for February1. This will be where the Galaxy S23 series will be formally introduced.
