New iPad mini with processor upgrade coming in 2023 or early 2024, says Kuo

Analyst and longtime Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that a new iPad mini, with a new CPU as its major update, would be released by Apple towards the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024.

To dispel speculation that a foldable iPad might replace the iPad mini in 2025, Kuo initially said in a fresh leak issued on Tuesday that the price of a folding iPad would be “much more” than the iPad mini.

Then, Kuo hinted that an updated iPad mini might be released at the end of 2019.

iPad Mini, Year(s) of Production: 2023–2024

On Tuesday, Kuo tweeted that “Apple is actively building a new iPad mini (the major selling feature is to be fitted with a new CPU),” with widespread production and distribution likely to begin by the end of 2023 or the first half of 2024.

Apparently, this means we have a while to wait for Apple’s new iPad mini. Apple introduced the iPad mini 2 and iPhone 13 in September 2021. Because of its compact form factor and reasonable price, it continues to be a top pick among iPads for mobility and simplicity of use.

The newest iPad mini is powered by an A15 Bionic chip, which has a 6-core CPU with 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine, which is an advance over the A10 chip.

The M1 and M2 chips from Apple’s Mac line, which have recently been pushed to both the iPad Pro and the iPad Air, are two examples of possible upgrades.

Kuo’s timeline suggests this iPad may make its debut in Apple’s autumn 2023 event lineup or possibly in Apple’s early spring 2024 presentation, although none of these appears set in stone at this moment.

If the new iPad mini’s “primary selling point” is its updated CPU, then we shouldn’t expect any radical aesthetic shifts or game-changing additions in this iteration.
