Your home office could sound like a studio thanks to this new Adobe audio tool

The newest version of Adobe’s web-based audio editing tool is tailor-made for anyone who want to improve the sound quality of recordings.

The power of AI is what Enhance Speech claims can clean up audio recordings.

It was originally part of Project Shasta, but is now known as Adobe Podcast, a web-based platform for AI-driven audio recording and editing. The company’s focus on the podcasting community means that voice enhancement is easier to come by than ever before.

Adaptive improvement

The beta version of Enhance Speech is available at no cost and may be accessed online. Although it most likely borrows some technology from Adobe Audition, users may feel they lack the granular control of a complete digital audio workstation.

Users may upload a file, although at the moment only MP3 and Wav are supported, plus there’s an hour restriction and a 1GB cap. They may play back the file, download it, or modify it when processing is complete. A handy feature is the toggle switch. During playing, users may choose between the original audio and the improved version.

Several audio files were processed by Enhance Speech at TechRadar Pro. The end result was satisfactory, provided that you aren’t expecting a spotless, broadcast-ready version. It wasn’t just that sounds farther away were louder; they seemed closer to the mike. There was noticeably less ambient noise. However, there were times when the technology over-corrected and made muffled speech seem tinny. Plan on a step up, but not the greatest.

There has been a range of opinions expressed by users, although most have been negative. Lots of people were thrilled by what they heard, while others complained of ghost voices and other problems. Adobe claims that using Enhance Speech would “make speech recordings sound like they were recorded in a professional studio,” although this is dubious.

It’s fascinating to see how Adobe’s AI technology is being used to both large-scale applications like Photoshop and Premiere Pro and more granular tools like this and the video editor/word processor combination Project Blink.
