This function has been there for a while, and it’s great to see it finally make its way to the Mac.

The latest macOS Ventura 13.1 developer beta features a useful new feature for the Find My app. The update allows users to “ping” their accessories to play a sound from them if they become separated from them. If you’ve misplaced your keys, wallet, backpack, or any other item equipped with an AirTag or similar device, this is a lifesaver.

Prior to this update, Mac users could only ping non-AirTag Apple devices including the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and more. All kinds of tracking devices can now be pinged directly from the macOS Find My app after the update.

This is a great improvement to Apple’s Find My app for the Mac, but it has long been available on the company’s other products. For quite some time now, customers have had the option to ping their missing iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch by using the Find My app.

Keep pinging from your other Apple devices for the time being, as this is still still part of the developer beta and its general availability is currently unknown.

This is a little but significant addition to Find My on the Mac, and it comes after Apple significantly expanded the feature’s functionality not so long ago.

When Apple released Emergency SOS via satellite for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro, it disclosed that anyone whose locations you choose to share can utilise the new SOS capability to find you in an emergency.

That’s a huge improvement for anyone using Find My to keep loved ones updated on their whereabouts.
