At the 2022 The Game Awards, Elden Ring wins Game of the Year

From Software’s Elden Ring was named Game of the Year at the 2022 Game Awards. Other prizes it took home were Best RPG, Best Art Direction, and Best Game Direction.

A Plague Tale: Requiem, Xenoblade Chronicles3, and Horizon: Forbidden West all competed in this category, as did the multiple award-winning God of War: Ragnarok.

After excerpts of music from each nominated game’s score were performed by a live orchestra, previous winner Josef Fares (It Takes Two) handed over the trophy to Souls developer Hidetaka Miyazaki. Since receiving the honour, Miyazaki has stated his intention to create even more engaging video games.

The year has been a sales success for Elden Ring. After its first introduction, the game quickly became the industry standard. While God of War: Ragnarok had one of the best launches of any console game, none of the other nominees have achieved the level of success or longevity enjoyed by Elden Ring.
