Another 2023 spec upgrade is revealed by a leak for the Samsung Galaxy S23

The leaks about the Samsung Galaxy S23 have been nonstop recently, but they apparently aren’t done yet. According to the newest rumours, the base storage capacity of all three versions in the range will be 256GB, up from 128GB last year.

Ahmed Qwalder, a reliable informant, claims that the Ultra variant would have 512GB and 1TB of internal storage. The regular and Plus variants do not have any additional features, at least according to this source.

In addition, we learn that the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus will each feature 8GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S23 Ultra will have 12GB of RAM (though prior leaks have suggested that an Ultra variant with 8GB of RAM is also in the works).

Variables for set-up

Both the standard Galaxy S22 and the larger Galaxy S22 Plus come with either 128 or 256GB of built-in storage. The Galaxy S22 Ultra offers the largest storage choices of any Samsung smartphone, with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of space at your disposal.

According to the most recent rumour, the 128GB base storage option is being eliminated from all three phones, and no replacements are being introduced. The 2022 phones would also have 8GB of RAM (with 12GB available on the Ultra).

While this is an improvement in theory, and maybe at no cost if the base models of the Galaxy S23 are priced similarly to their predecessors, Samsung is cutting down on the number of Galaxy S23 models available this year.

The importance of internal storage cannot be overstated

Now that so many applications use cloud-based streaming to provide material, it’s possible that on-device storage is less of a priority than it previously was, thanks to services like Netflix, Spotify, and others.

Still, the more storage space you have, the better, as applications like Netflix and Spotify use that data to store media for offline viewing and listening when you don’t have internet access. Then there are the podcasts, self-captured images and video, and ever-expanding, intricate digital games and applications.

A starting configuration of 128GB on a new phone, although still common, is beginning to seem a little low. 256GB and higher storage capacities may finally become the standard this year, but Apple may be slow to follow up (it was only selling 64GB on the iPhone 12).

We miss the days when phones had a memory card slot so that users could add more space whenever they needed it. Since then, it has become much less common, thus the Galaxy S23’s increase to 256GB of storage space, if it comes at a reasonable price, is excellent news.
