Recently, Apple TV Plus unveiled its 2023 lineup, and it has finally won me over

Apple, you deserve some praise. After more than three years, I decided to subscribe to your streaming service.

I haven’t felt the need to subscribe to Apple TV Plus despite its extensive library of highly regarded series and movies, like CODA (2022), which won the Oscar for Best Picture. Perhaps it’s because Netflix, one of the top streaming services in the world, offers so much more for my dollar.

However, the newly revealed 2023 selection for Apple TV Plus has convinced me to pay the service’s $9.99 / £9.99 monthly price.

What original works created by Apple has me willing to part with my money?

Season 3 of Ted Lasso, to begin with. The very successful soccer comedy series, widely regarded as one of the finest programmes in Apple TV Plus history, has been stuck in development purgatory for a very long time. We can now see the light at the end of the tunnel, with Apple’s confirmation that its critically acclaimed series will return to our screens in the first quarter of 2023. For those of you up north, it means spring; for those of you down south, it means fall or autumn.

Ted Lasso’s last season may be the greatest appeal, but Apple’s streaming service also has a tonne of other episodes and movies that seem like they were built with me in mind.

Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein’s Shrinking, from the creators of Ted Lasso, will satisfy your need for hilarity till the return of Apple’s greatest success. Shrinking, starring Harrison Ford and Jason Segel, seeks to find a middle ground between life’s joyful and tragic events in the vein of Ted Lasso. Launching on Apple TV Plus on January 27th, I won’t have to wait much longer to join up.

Looking to replace the need left by Knives Out and Glass Onion, I’ve added season 2 of The Afterparty to my watch list. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are back with a sequel to their outstanding murder mystery-comedy series, and it’s guaranteed to be just as subversively clever as the first. Fans of comedic entertainment will be well fed in the first quarter of 2023, as both this and the second season of the musical comedy Schmigadoon! are on the way.

It’s not only the comedic content on Apple TV Plus that has me considering a subscription. Also highly recommended is the streamer’s 2023 science fiction lineup, which includes season 2 of Foundation and (perhaps) season 2 of Severance.

Hello Tomorrow! and The Big Door Prize are the most fascinating of Apple TV Plus’s genuine piece of science fiction. The former is a retro-futuristic series in which Billy Crudup’s character, Jack Billings, and his sales team convince locals to invest in moon-based timeshares. Sure, it doesn’t exactly pique your interest, but if you look closer, you’ll notice a distinct air of dread, a tense dramatic undertone, and an overall feeling of unease. I think anybody who like Tales from the Loop and the first season of Loki would enjoy this.

The Big Door Prize is enticing in its own right. Apple’s teaser for the series, which can be seen above, doesn’t reveal anything about the plot of the show. However, the plot will revolve on a strange device known as Morpho that arrives in a local shop. Although Morpho claims to “reveal each resident’s full life potential,” it’s not obvious that this will be a beneficial experience for everyone. When it finally arrives in Q1 of 2023, here’s hope it has the same unnerving atmosphere as Severance.

In 2023, Apple TV Plus has a portfolio full of premium shows to compete with HBO Max. Extrapolations, a limited series starring Meryl Streep, Kit Harington, and David Schwimmer, is another example of Apple’s willingness to produce compelling and suspenseful storylines, following on the heels of Jennifer Garner’s The Last Thing He Told Me.

And that’s just Apple TV Plus’s TV programme offerings. Its upcoming film schedule is jam-packed with titles that I am looking forward to seeing. It’s possible that Killers of the Flower Moon, a Western crime drama directed by Martin Scorsese, Henry Cavill’s espionage thriller Argyle, and Julianne Moore’s neo-noir Sharper will all make it into our greatest Apple TV Plus movies list if I wind up liking them.

It’s possible that competitors to Apple TV Plus, such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus, and others, will have a wider selection of TV series and movies available. Apple’s streaming platform is growing in popularity as a result of its extensive and varied library of episodes and movies, many of which are unjustly underappreciated.

If Apple continues making groundbreaking and critically acclaimed shows, its streaming service will soon be a serious contender. In the next months, I will be spending my money elsewhere, and it will not be on Netflix.
