Following Meta’s significant v67 multitasking update earlier this month, the company is now rolling out its v68 software update for Quest. This update brings experimental access to Meta AI, a new utility app called Layout designed for home improvement, and various performance enhancements.
One of the standout features of the v68 update is Meta AI, previously available only on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. Now, Meta AI allows you to use AI voice chat through Bing and leverages the headset’s camera sensors to answer questions about your surroundings. This feature is launching in experimental mode on Quest 3, initially available in the US and Canada in English.
Another exciting addition in the v68 update is Layout, an app that helps you visualize real-world items in your physical space. With Layout, you can measure rooms for furniture, ensure items are level, and see how different objects might fit in your home. The app includes virtual objects like chairs, beds, couches, shelves, and TVs, which you can move and rotate within your home environment. This tool aims to simplify home arrangements and reduce store visits. Meta suggests that Layout could also serve as a guide for companies looking to use XR technology for future e-commerce solutions. Notably, Meta’s Horizon Store currently lacks the retailer experience seen in platforms like Vision Pro, which now features a similar XR app by Best Buy.
The v68 update also brings several performance improvements. Quest 3 now supports Content Adaptive Brightness Control, reducing contrast in darker scenes to enhance the display experience. You can enable this feature from the Experimental settings menu. Additionally, the update includes faster app downloads with a new “Downloads” tab for better management and a new frame timing algorithm that enhances graphic performance by improving frame rate and reducing latency in OpenXR apps. This results in smoother visuals and less stuttering.
As with all Quest software updates, v68 is releasing on a rolling basis. To check your current software version or manually download updates, follow these steps:

- Hover over the clock on the left side of the universal menu. When Quick Settings appears, select it to open the Quick Settings panel.
