The newest information from the GPU grapevine is that Nvidia’s soon-to-be-released RTX 4070 Ti might be sold for $799.

It has been reported that the RTX 4070 Ti will be at least 10% less expensive than the scrapped RTX 4080 12GB, despite the fact that the two models are functionally identical graphics cards (at least according to the leaked core specifications for the 4070 Ti; we’ll return to that as there has been new spillage on this front elsewhere).

Nvidia’s botched RTX 4080 12GB, which was quickly “unlaunched” by the company, was originally set to sell for $899 in the United States. With a 10% discount, it amounts to $810, suggesting that the MSRP of the RTX 4070 Ti will be $799 (it would be strange to sell it at $10 over the $800 mark).

To back up that claim, both Nvidia and the YouTube leaker Moore’s Law is Dead have said that the MSRP for the graphics card will be $799.

It has been reported that the RTX 4070 Ti will have 7,680 CUDA Cores and a boost frequency of 2.61GHz. This time, the leak comes from Nvidia France, who posted the specifications on their website in advance of the official introduction (as per a tweet from @momomo us).

An expected shift in market conditions

We think the speculated MSRP is about right; it’s a nice round figure that’s always looked plausible, though we really thought Nvidia may go a bit cheaper to $749. With numerous sources reaffirming this so soon to the debut of the RTX 4070 Ti, it feels more likely that this is on the money. As this is merely a rumour, however, it is possible that a cheaper GPU may suddenly appear in the market.

To release the RTX 4070 Ti at the same or a very comparable price to the scrapped RTX 4080 12GB would be stretching things, which is why we have always assumed Nvidia will not do so. As we previously detailed at length in our review of Nvidia’s 2022, the team green has already lost enough goodwill with its premium price for Lovelace GPUs.

Of course, there’s a possible knot in the ointment: the RTX 4070 Ti doesn’t have a Founders Edition, which means there isn’t an Nvidia-made and -sold version of the board. Since NVIDIA has decided to have its partners produce all RTX 4070 Ti graphics cards, the MSRP is useful as a baseline, but third-party manufacturers are likely to price their products higher.

There will undoubtedly be RTX 4070 Ti boards available at the suggested retail price; the more costly ones are those that have faster clock rates and more expensive components, along with fancier cooling. Specifically, how long they’ll be accessible for those who want in on the very inexpensive Lovelace action (and scalpers are involved too, inevitably).
