Nintendo is venturing beyond its traditional gaming consoles with the announcement of Alarmo, a motion-controlled alarm clock that puts a unique spin on your daily routine. Set to launch in early 2025 for $99.99, Alarmo is already available for early purchase to Switch Online subscribers. While this isn’t the highly anticipated successor to the Switch, it’s a fresh addition to Nintendo’s growing lineup of innovative gadgets.
The key feature that sets Alarmo apart is its motion control. Instead of pressing buttons, you can snooze the alarm with a wave of your hand or stop it entirely by getting out of bed. This playful twist on an everyday item was first hinted at when the device surfaced in an FCC filing last month, sparking curiosity about its capabilities.
Beyond its motion features, Alarmo also brings Nintendo’s world of gaming sounds to your morning routine. With 35 different audio scenes sourced from five beloved Switch titles—The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Pikmin 4, Splatoon 3, Super Mario Odyssey, and Ring Fit Adventure—you can choose how you want to wake up. What’s more, by linking your Nintendo account, you’ll receive additional soundtracks from Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Mario Kart 8 through free updates, enhancing your audio experience.
Alarmo isn’t just about waking you up, though. The device also tracks your sleep, letting you monitor how much you move during the night. You can even customize the way you wake up with different modes: Steady Mode gradually intensifies the alarm until you get out of bed, while Gentle Mode keeps things at a softer, more consistent level. If you’re a fan of more traditional alarm clocks, Button Mode gives you the option to hit the snooze button manually. For a relaxing end to your day, Alarmo offers calming music and themed hourly chimes to help you unwind before bed.
This new hardware arrives as Nintendo shifts focus away from its next console, instead exploring unique ways to engage its fan base. Last month, Nintendo launched The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, likely one of the final major releases for the Switch. In October, the company also opened the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, celebrating its rich history. While the gaming community eagerly awaits Nintendo’s next big console reveal, Alarmo brings a touch of the company’s magic into everyday life with a blend of nostalgia and innovative design.
