RTX 4060 and 4050 GPUs from Nvidia have been spotted, but don’t get your hopes up too high

The Lovelace-based RTX 4060 and 4050 desktop graphics cards from Nvidia may be available sooner than planned, since they are likely to be more reasonably priced.

The Shangke Group, a Chinese manufacturer of graphics cards and other components, has submitted applications to the EEC for the RTX 4060 and RTX 4050 models (Eurasian Economic Commission).

The RTX 4060 and 4050 may be closer to release than the rumour mill has suggested, since EEC filings are often made when a product’s release is imminent.

However, we need to exercise extreme caution in jumping to conclusions based on EEC filings, as they may be made prematurely in some situations or even on speculation for items that serve as stand-ins.

In essence, these listings shouldn’t be placed with too much weight, but they do provide a tempting clue that the RTX 4060 and 4050 desktop graphics cards may appear shortly (or, frankly, we’d settle with one of these GPUs being pushed out soon-ish).

Reasons to be dubious

The absence of speculation about the RTX 4060 and 4050 in the GPU grapevine is largely responsible for the delay in their release (when product development is further down the line, there are generally leaks and rumors).

However, there has been an increase in rumours and reports concerning the RTX 4060 Ti, and it’s not the news many people want to hear about the potential strength of this GPU. Most of the talk, however, has been on how long we may have to wait for the vanilla RTX 4060 graphics card, with estimates ranging from the middle of 2023 to far beyond that.

In addition, we must take into account that Nvidia still has RTX 3000 series stock to sell through (or its partners have), so any mid-range release will have to wait until the inventory of GPUs like the RTX 3060 is much depleted.

Furthermore, we’ve heard very much nothing about the RTX 4050, except for info on the laptop GPU. Even though the RTX 4050 and 4060 laptop versions have been announced and will soon be available in portables, these mobile graphics cards are considerably different from the desktop ones.

To sum up, we’re not certain that the RTX 4060 and 4050 are on the horizon, but we’re willing to take this as a nascent hint that maybe one of these cards (probably the RTX 4060) is going to show out maybe in a few months’ time (and maybe the 4060 Ti, too). That is, if we’re fortunate. And certainly a lot may rely on how the GPU market performs in general in terms of getting rid of that RTX 3000 stock, regardless of what Nvidia may have planned right now, and could have informed its manufacturing partners to anticipate.
