Krafton Takes Over Tango Gameworks, Ensuring Studio’s Survival and Future

Tango Gameworks, known for hits like ‘Hi-Fi Rush’ and ‘The Evil Within,’ has been saved from shutdown thanks to Krafton Inc.’s acquisition. The studio, which Microsoft had planned to close this year along with other Xbox game studios, will now continue under Krafton’s wing.

Established in 2010 by Shinji Mikami, the mind behind ‘Resident Evil,’ Tango Gameworks has made a name with its unique games. It was part of Microsoft’s portfolio following the ZeniMax Media acquisition in 2020.

Krafton’s purchase includes the rights to ‘Hi-Fi Rush,’ which is currently available for less than $8 on Steam—a great deal for those looking to dive in. This move not only ensures Tango Gameworks’ survival but also marks Krafton’s significant foray into the Japanese gaming market.

Krafton’s announcement highlights the company’s excitement about this acquisition: “Today, Krafton Inc. is thrilled to welcome Tango Gameworks to our team. This move represents a key moment in our global expansion and entry into the Japanese video game market. We’re acquiring the rights to Tango Gameworks’ popular IP, ‘Hi-Fi Rush.’”

The company promises a smooth transition and ongoing collaboration with Xbox and ZeniMax to keep the studio’s projects rolling. “We’re committed to supporting Tango Gameworks in continuing their innovative work and delivering new experiences for fans,” Krafton stated.

Under Krafton’s stewardship, Tango Gameworks will keep working on ‘Hi-Fi Rush’ and future projects. Although titles like ‘Ghostwire: Tokyo’ and ‘The Evil Within’ will stay with Microsoft, existing Tango Gameworks games will remain available on Xbox Game Pass and other platforms.

A Microsoft spokesperson reassured, “We’re working with Krafton to ensure the Tango Gameworks team can continue developing games together. There will be no impact on the existing catalog of Tango games.”

This acquisition offers a fresh start for Tango Gameworks in a year marked by industry-wide layoffs. Fans of ‘Hi-Fi Rush,’ which surprised many with its direct Xbox Game Pass release early last year, can look forward to more exciting developments.

With Krafton’s support, Tango Gameworks is set to continue its legacy, and there’s hope for new entries in ‘The Evil Within’ down the line. For now, the studio’s future looks promising, bringing a much-needed dose of optimism to a challenging year in the gaming industry.
