On the Google Play Store, Axie Infinity: Origins will make its debut

Sky Mavis has announced that their game Axie Infinity: Origins has been approved for release on the Google Play Store.

Axie Infinity: Origins is a free-to-play title that exposes players to the possibilities for earning prizes and owning their own goods in the Axie play-to-earn world, therefore this is a huge step forward for Web3 games. Sky Mavis, located in Vietnam, claims to have the first Web3 game to be approved by a major app store, although the business had to make significant changes to the game in order to get approval.

The game’s initial tentative steps will be on the Google Play Store in Malaysia. The development team will be able to try out and fine-tune the game in this way.

With the release of Axie Infinity in 2021, Sky Mavis was launched on the path to become a big player in the gaming industry thanks to the game’s play-to-earn principles, which fused cryptocurrency with gaming. Over 1.8 million people were playing the game every day at its height in the middle of 2021, but as new players got scarcer and the price of purchasing Axie characters increased, the game’s popularity began to decline.

That’s a lot of downloads, especially given that at the time neither Apple nor Google would let crypto games with crypto transactions on their app stores.

According to Sky Mavis, “we will also be releasing Origins in smaller nations that mimic the demographics and player archetypes of areas like North/South America, Europe, and East Asia” as part of a goal to “dip our toes” into markets in order to collect data and improve. This will give us more time to perfect Origins before it goes live in other countries, increasing its overall impact.

The app’s functionality will be restricted in its early Play Store releases. As an example, in accordance with existing restrictions on the Google Play Store, gamers will not be able to earn tokens.

Naturally, we’re not going to abandon our dream of a digital country in which players share equal ownership, and we’ll keep cooperating with app stores to make that a reality in the worlds we create. “This is the first step towards welcoming a new generation of Lunacians,” Sky Mavis stated.
