The United Kingdom is one of eight European nations that may now participate in Apple’s Self Service Repair programme.

Since its inception in April, Apple’s iPhone Self-Repair Program has provided users with access to online repair guides, as well as real Apple parts and equipment, allowing them to do repairs on their own. This marks the program’s first rollout outside of the United States. The newest iPhone 14 devices do not support these.

“Customers who wish to complete their own repairs will be able to perform many of the most common repairs for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups, and Mac notebooks with Apple silicon,” Apple notes in a press release.

The Apple hardware, software, and documentation can all be purchased from an independent Self Service Repair Store. Users from the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Belgium can participate.

Because it is designed for those who already have expertise fixing electrical equipment, Self Service Repair isn’t suitable for novices. While this group of consumers may not have access to authorised Apple service, they do have the option to do repairs themselves using OEM components.

While the iPhone 14 has been rated as the most repairable iPhone in years by iFixit’s community of fix experts, changing the battery without damaging other components can be difficult without the proper tools.

Consumers in the United Kingdom, for instance, may spend £70.94 on an iPhone 12 Battery Bundle that has the battery, screw kit, display adhesives, and security screws. The consumer should get in touch with the Apple parts supply operator after repairs are complete in order to begin setting up the system.

However, Apple charges £69 to replace the battery in an iPhone 12. That means consumers have more options, but they won’t save money by doing it themselves. If the battery has lost more than 80% of its original capacity, it will cost you $29, but if you have AppleCare+, it’s free.

Apple’s COO Jeff Williams underlined that the company’s products are built to last and require minimal upkeep.

“But when a repair is needed, we want customers to have many options for safe, reliable, and secure repair. That’s why we’re excited to launch Self Service Repair in Europe, giving our customers direct access to genuine Apple parts, tools, and manuals.”

As part of its mission to “further extend access to repairs and boost repairability of devices over time,” Apple said Self Service Repair is available. It also means bringing third-party and Apple-authorized service providers closer to clients, in addition to providing direct access.

Apple claims that the number of service sites, including 4,000 independent repair providers, that have access to authentic Apple parts, equipment, and training has nearly quadrupled. In addition, Apple offers a network of 5,000 official service centres across the world, staffed by over 100,000 trained professionals.

“As a result, eight out of 10 Apple customers are located within 30 minutes of an authorized service provider across Europe,” Apple notes.
