Samsung and industry experts report that the Galaxy Fold continues to sell wherever it is launched. It’s almost hard to believe since the prohibitive price tag of $ 2,000 and the limited availability make it an extremely rare product.
Regardless of the accuracy of these reports, Samsung still seems to believe in the vision of folding phones, except that this vision could change before next releases of the next Galaxy Fold, next year.
Samsung may take its time before unveiling the future Galaxy Fold 2. The first Galaxy Fold was announced earlier in February, but thanks to a series of problems, the phone did not fully launch the phone until last month . Hopefully the waiting time for the Galaxy Fold 2 will be shorter.
That said, Samsung is changing more than timing. According to industry sources, the company plans to use ultra thin glass (UTG) as a protective layer to replace the transparent polyimide film (PI) currently used on the Galaxy Fold. In theory, this would give it better protection against scratches, which plastic-like protection can not provide.
The changes do not stop there. These same sources say that the next Galaxy Fold will not look like the current Galaxy Fold. It folds vertically like a shell instead of a book.
This goes hand in hand with the reduced screen size of 6.7 inches, which will be larger / longer than wide.
This reported change is attributed to the fact that Samsung focuses more on portability than on a big screen, which is its appeal with the Galaxy Fold. However, some say that Samsung is still undecided and could even produce a bigger Galaxy Fold 2 with a 8.1-inch screen.
