There will be a much-needed fitness upgrade for the Oculus Quest 2

If you’re a fan of working out in virtual reality, you’ll be pleased to know that the Quest 2 and Quest Pro, Meta’s top-tier VR headsets, are receiving the company’s most comprehensive fitness update to date.

The first update is only available for Android users, but don’t feel left out Apple iPhone owners; Apple is just catching up to what you already had. Users of the Meta Quest Pro and the Oculus Quest 2 can now integrate their virtual reality workouts with Android’s Health Connect, an application programming interface (API) that is leveraged by multiple apps to centrally store and track your fitness statistics.

You can more easily track your progress toward your goals and make informed decisions about how to spend your time if all of your data is in one place.

Go into the Move app on your Quest headset to begin setting up this sync. If it isn’t already, turn on the option to “Connect Move to Meta Quest Mobile App” in the app’s Settings menu.

The next step is to remove the headset, start the Meta Quest app, and then select the Menu icon, followed by the Move icon. The option to enable syncing with Health Connect will be available in the Connected Apps section. Share your Exercise and Active Calories Burned data by adjusting the sharing settings. Then, you can access everything in the Health Connect app.

More importantly, devices like the Garmin HRM-Dual and the Polar H10, which use Bluetooth, can now be paired with your Meta Quest headset.

Once paired, the Meta Quest Move overlay will show your heart rate in VR, along with your calorie burn and the number of active minutes you’ve spent in VR. Our favourite part is that this overlay works with any VR game, so you can track your VR fitness data whether you’re playing Les Mills Body Combat or Liteboxer, or one of the best VR games like Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, or Until You Fall.

Connect your heart rate monitor to your Quest through the Bluetooth settings menu to begin monitoring your pulse in virtual reality.

These improvements make working out in VR even more fun and practical for newcomers and veterans alike. Trying a virtual reality workout may be the push you need to keep up with your New Year’s fitness resolution. You don’t want to overdo it with the exercise in 2023, but you shouldn’t be afraid to take it easy either.
