Now, ChatGPT is available for Linux desktops

It’s worth noting that while ChatGPT is currently available as an extension for your Linux laptop or desktop, the project is still in its infancy and certain features may not yet function as expected.

The preview version of the conversational AI tool was released to the public in November 2022, and its popularity has since skyrocketed.

It has so many users that some say it’s inaccessible because demand exceeds supply.

On Linux, Use ChatGPT

With this new extension, Linux users may access ChatGPT from their desktops with just a click, provided they already have an account and the service isn’t at capacity.

Because of Rafal Mioduszewski’s Gnome extension, this is now feasible; nevertheless, the extension’s creator has hinted that KDE users may also find a solution.

But there are some restrictions: currently, the extension only works well with Xorg, therefore Wayland can’t be used unless a workaround is found.

Mioduszewski has also mentioned that mouse navigation is still flawed, forcing users to resort to the keyboard for the best experience; this may not be an issue for those Linux users who like the keyboard.

After downloading the necessary files from Mioduszewki’s GitHub repository and installing them properly, as well as restarting the computer, users will have quick access to the potent AI tool.

Greg Brockman, co-founder of OpenAI, has proposed charging for a more advanced version of ChatGPT, which is now available for free.
