Nothing is being done to create more wireless earbuds, including perhaps a new brand

Carl Pei’s Nothing is a young tech company that has released one Android phone (the Nothing Phone 1) and two sets of true wireless earbuds, both of which have an air of distinction about them despite the company’s immaturity. Another set of wireless earbuds has been announced by this new company, but you won’t find any branding for them on the packaging or the headphones themselves.

Images of what seem to be intriguing genuine wireless earphones were uncovered by intelligence wrangler Kuba Wojciechowski and shared by 91Mobiles.

You’re not the only one who wonders where the buds came from. The shape of the stems is, if we’re being charitable, rather gourd-like. The bud tips will protrude from the ears, making them immediately noticeable to anybody walking by. And unlike Nothing’s transparent, techy Ear 1 and Ear Stick, they opt for a matte plastic aesthetic, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Buds 2.

These headphones, called “Particles by XO,” are said to be connected to a new brand that has not yet been released. However, it’s unclear whether “Particles” will be the brand name for the headphones themselves, or if “XO” would only serve as a masthead.

Based on the firmware information retrieved, the Particles by XO earbuds will support active noise reduction and LHDC, a higher-fidelity codec that has been used in the mobile arena mostly by Chinese manufacturers like Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi. We won’t base a decision on such data, but we won’t be shocked by low supply, either.

Most LHDC-supporting wireless earbuds, such the Oppo Enco X2, and the Edifier NeoBuds Pro, only support this sophisticated codec. To this day, Nothing’s own products only provide basic compatibility with the industry-standard AAC and SBC codecs.
