Launch of Nothing Phone 2 in 2023 will include much-needed software upgrades

CEO and co-founder Carl Pei has said that the company would release a new Nothing Phone (1) in 2023, after the success of last year’s release in the United Kingdom.

The Nothing Phone (1) isn’t the finest smartphone available right now, but it has proven to be rather popular in markets where it is sold because to its eye-catching design, low price, and solid performance for the money. As a result, it’s not shocking that the company would want to introduce a sequel.

Nothing CEO Carl Pei recently spoke with Inverse and said that the firm has ambitious ambitions for its upcoming “more expensive” smartphone, codenamed Phone (2). According to reports, Pei is reluctant to provide too many specifics about Nothings’ plans for its future smartphone. Nonetheless, he did share the company’s priorities in these two areas.

The primary one is digital software. We are unsure of the specific nature of the upcoming updates, however we do hope that the user interface will be improved in some way. The Android-based Nothing OS is tidy, but it’s not the most reliable version of Android and it doesn’t have any user-friendly features like a one-handed mode, as we discovered in our review.

The Phone(2) also differs greatly in that it was developed with American consumers in mind. Despite its initial success in other markets, the Nothing phone (1) was slow to make its way to the United States until a peculiar beta programme made it possible. Nothing seems to be using this initiative to learn more about what features and certifications its smartphones will need to run on US networks, as well as to gauge interest from carriers.

While we anticipate certain changes from the Phone, we don’t anticipate wholesale revisions (1). In all likelihood, the Phone 2 will retain the original’s recognisable Glyph user interface, and it will also be priced competitively to provide people with good value for their money. A official announcement for the Phone 2 is expected for later in the year, so we may have to wait to learn the actual price and specifications.

To tide us over until then, we have a few additional tech revelations, such as the ones scheduled for February 1 (tomorrow, at the time of writing), including the announcements made at Samsung Unpacked 2023. The Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphone will almost certainly be introduced during the Unpacked 2023 event (and its upgraded Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra models). Check out our coverage of the Samsung Galaxy S23 launch event if you’re interested in learning more about the gadgets that were unveiled.
