Western Truck Group (WTG) has recently revealed plans to expand its operations through the acquisition of Southern Truck Centre (STC), which boasts two key truck dealerships in New South Wales. This strategic acquisition is slated for completion by May 2025, marking a significant expansion for WTG.
STC was initially founded in Queanbeyan in 1994 and has been an accredited dealer for Volvo, UD, and Mack trucks. The business grew substantially under Steve and Lisa Barlow, who took ownership in 2008 and later expanded to Wollongong in 2011. Today, the company is proud to employ 95 staff members.
Reflecting on his longstanding relationship with Volvo Group, starting in 1996 in the UK and continuing with Volvo Group Australia since 2004, Steve Barlow stated that he felt it was the right time to pass the reins of his business to WTG.
Joe White, WTG’s Dealer Principal, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, highlighting it as an opportunity to enhance the group’s capabilities to deliver outstanding services and products, particularly in less urban areas.
WTG was established in 2018, following the acquisition of Queensland Truck Centre, which had been a stalwart in the trucking industry since 1993, servicing Toowoomba, Mount Isa, and the Sunshine Coast and maintaining a partnership with Volvo Group Australia.
Martin Merrick, President and CEO of Volvo Group Australia, commended the integration of STC into the WTG network. He underscored the importance of dealership networks and workshops in ensuring the success of their clients’ operations. Merrick anticipates that this expansion will enhance the legacy of excellence along Australia’s principal freight routes.
In his closing remarks, Merrick extended his gratitude to the Barlow family and the entire STC team for their dedication to building a successful enterprise. He looks forward to their continued collaboration under the new management of WTG, aiming to boost customer support and operational success in the dynamic trucking industry.
