Apple Unveils Advanced Intelligence Features in iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 Developer Betas

Apple has just released the first developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, featuring the new Apple Intelligence. These betas will be tested alongside the current iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia 15 betas. Developers can opt to try the new Apple Intelligence betas or continue with the standard beta track.

To access Apple Intelligence, developers need an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPad or Mac with an Apple silicon chip. Eligible devices will receive the update, and Apple Intelligence can be activated via the Settings app. Developers must join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist, with access typically granted within a few hours.

Several features of Apple Intelligence are available now, such as Writing Tools, Siri’s new design, the ability to switch between voice commands and typing for Siri, content summaries, new Mail categories, and smart replies in Messages. Writing Tools allow users to rewrite, spell-check, grammar-check, and summarize text in Messages, Notes, Mail, Pages, and other writing apps. The Notes app also benefits from transcript summarization.

Siri now has a new look, featuring a glowing edge around the screen when activated, and the option to type commands at the bottom of the display. Siri is smarter with Apple’s product knowledge and support database, retaining context better and handling voice command variations more efficiently.

Mail now includes message summaries and Smart Reply options, which are also available in Messages. The Reduce Interruptions Focus mode helps filter out non-essential notifications and highlight urgent ones like ride arrivals.

The Photos app now supports the Memories feature for creating slideshows using natural language requests. Search functionality includes videos, making it easier to find specific segments.

Some features are still in development, such as Image Playground, Genmoji, ChatGPT integration, object erasure in Photos, Priority Notifications, and more Siri capabilities. These will be rolled out gradually with regular updates.

Currently, Apple Intelligence features are limited to the developer beta. It is unclear if there will be a public beta for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. Apple plans to release Apple Intelligence in beta form later this fall, separate from the initial release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia 15. Therefore, these features won’t be available immediately when the new software versions drop in September.

When Apple Intelligence officially launches this fall, it will still be in beta. Developers trying out the new updates should note that Apple Intelligence is still in its early development stages.
