If you’re on an older Verizon unlimited plan, get ready for a higher bill soon. Starting March 2024, Verizon is raising the cost of its 5G Get More, 5G Play More, 5G Do More, and 5G Start unlimited plans by $4 per line.
This move isn’t surprising, as Verizon has a history of price adjustments. Last summer, they increased rates on some older unlimited plans and added new fees to others. In 2022, they raised prices on shared data plans. However, plans that have already experienced a rate hike won’t be affected this time around.
“Beginning March 1, Verizon customers on select older Unlimited mobile plans will see a $4 increase per line, effective in their next billing cycle,” a Verizon spokesperson.
Verizon’s latest price hike seems designed to encourage users to switch to its newer “myPlan” unlimited options: Unlimited Ultimate, Unlimited Plus, and Unlimited Welcome. Unlike the older plans, these new options don’t include streaming services like the Disney bundle or international data roaming days. Instead, customers can add these as $10 per month “perks.”
The spokesperson emphasized that customers on older plans “can easily move to myPlan and take advantage of the network option that works best for them, plus exclusive savings on entertainment, shopping, and experiences, including Disney Plus, Apple One, Netflix, Max, Walmart, and many others.”
Importantly, the pricing for Verizon’s newer plans will remain the same.
Verizon isn’t the only carrier adjusting its prices. In January, AT&T increased the cost of its unlimited plans by 99 cents per line, and T-Mobile announced a price hike for its Home Internet service.
Customers might want to consider the benefits and drawbacks of the new “myPlan” offerings with these price changes. These plans provide more flexibility in choosing additional services but could lead to higher overall costs for those who want multiple perks. Reviewing current usage and needs can help determine if switching to a new plan is the most cost-effective option.
As the wireless industry continues to evolve, keeping an eye on plan changes and promotional offers can help consumers make informed decisions about their mobile service providers.
