The 2025 Toyota GR Corolla is set to make waves in the Australian market, bringing a new level of excitement with its latest updates. Australian deliveries are slated for the fourth quarter of 2024 (October to December), with pricing details expected to be announced closer to the launch.
A major highlight of the 2025 model is the introduction of an eight-speed automatic transmission, which joins the existing six-speed manual option. This transmission, also featured in the updated GR Yaris, adds to the GR Corolla’s appeal. Additionally, the turbocharged 1.6-litre three-cylinder engine now delivers an extra 30Nm of torque, boosting it to 400Nm—a spec previously exclusive to the track-focused, two-seat Morizo Edition. Despite the unchanged power output of 221kW, Toyota claims that the engine now packs a stronger punch at higher revs.
The GR Corolla’s exterior has received a facelift with a new front bumper design aimed at enhancing aerodynamics and cooling efficiency. According to Toyota, the redesigned bumper directs air more effectively to the brake ducts, reducing the risk of overheating during track sessions.
Under the hood, the 2025 GR Corolla features a retuned suspension setup that improves handling, particularly during cornering. The anti-lock braking system has been recalibrated, and the steering is now more direct. For manual versions, the clutch pedal engagement has been sharpened.
Inside, the GR Corolla retains its 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, selectable all-wheel drive modes (which distribute torque between the front and rear axles), and sports seats. The infotainment system supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring seamless smartphone integration for navigation, music, and communication.
Safety is also a key focus with the 2025 GR Corolla, featuring Toyota Safety Sense. This suite of driver assistance technologies includes pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, and automatic high beams, enhancing both safety and convenience.
It appears that the GR Corolla Morizo Edition will no longer be available globally, following its discontinuation in Japan and the US last year.
The current GR Corolla range starts at $64,190 before on-road costs for the GTS model. How this pricing will change with the 2025 lineup remains to be seen.
With its blend of performance enhancements, advanced safety features, and cutting-edge technology, the 2025 Toyota GR Corolla promises to be a compelling choice for both driving enthusiasts and everyday users.
