TikTok in the US Would Be Banned by Congressional Bills

The authorities may cut off your access to TikTok videos if you can’t seem to tear yourself away from the app. On Tuesday, three members of Congress presented a bill to prohibit TikTok in the United States, citing the need to safeguard Americans from Chinese eavesdropping and propaganda.

Florida Republican Marco Rubio has introduced legislation in the Senate to ban the use of the app TikTok and its parent firm, ByteDance, which is located in China.

Representatives Mike Gallagher (R-Wisconsin) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Illinois) have proposed companion legislation in the House of Representatives.

Gallagher made a statement in which he called TikTok “digital fentanyl” that was “addicting” Americans, gathering vast amounts of data from them, and suppressing the news. Furthermore, Rubio stated that “Beijing controls” TikTok. When used effectively, social media may be a potent tool for spreading propaganda. Both YouTube and Facebook have issued warnings about Russian influence and misinformation activities, and both have banned user accounts in an effort to counteract the attacks.
