Verizon releases +Play, a subscription service aggregator, in open beta

At its Investor Event in March, Verizon launched +Play, a no-cost, web-based platform available only to Verizon subscribers that aggregates subscription services in the areas of entertainment, music, gaming, fitness, lifestyle, and more.

The open beta version of Verizon’s +Play service was released today, allowing Verizon wireless, 5G Home, and LTE Home customers to buy and manage subscriptions to more than twenty different services, such as Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, ESPN+, discovery+, AMC+, NFL+, NBA League Pass, NBA TV, Veeps, Live Nation’s live streaming concert service, Peloton, Calm, and Duolingo.

Verizon is gifting +Play customers a free 12-month Netflix Premium membership, a $240 value, free of charge in conjunction with the launch. The business stated in today’s release that the special deal would only be available for a short time.

As a Verizon user, you can enjoy +Play at no extra cost. Go to plusplay.verizon.com and sign in using your current Verizon account information to gain access to the beta. Users who sign up for a service through +Play get access to the service via the provider’s website or mobile app.

+Play is a subscription hub similar to others, including a “Discover” section for finding material, a “Shop” section for purchasing it, and a “Manage” section for handling all of the user’s account information and payments in one convenient location. In addition, +Play alerts users when a free trial period ends or when a subscription’s pricing increases.

Verizon has stated that the current beta release is only the beginning, and that the platform will develop over time to include additional services, unique deals, and features.

Verizon is the partner of choice for content and subscriptions services, according to Erin McPherson, the company’s Chief Content Officer. “As the network America relies on and one of the largest direct-to-consumer distributors in the U.S., we are positioned to move the industry forward by offering customers more choice and enabling a seamless billing and management experience,” she added. “We’ve teamed up with Netflix to provide you all your favourite shows and movies, plus a deal you can only get in +Play.”

As the popularity of streaming service aggregators grows, Verizon is probably banking that its millions of consumers would desire +Play. Primetime Channels” was released by YouTube not too long ago, and it enables users to subscribe to and view content from 30+ providers. Amazon, Roku, and Apple are some of the competition.

McPherson elaborated, “This is a big milestone for Verizon and the industry as a whole, and we’re tremendously thrilled to continue to be trailblazers in the new era of content and subscription services.”
